TED TALKS
Ken Robins is a speaker, and advisor who generally talks about creativity, education and artistic abilities, and those are precisely the topics he talks about in this video.
for years and years our world has undergone constant change, all in our world has changed, technology, science, politics, but the educational system it's the same, the same subjects has been taught for years, history, maths and biology, we've given priority to this because is the knowledge that in the future "will help us to have a good job"; but what happen with the other human skills?
we have grown up with the idea that there are only certain types of intelligences, but we are wrong, what about the girl who is unable to solve mathematical problems but is exceptional at playing the piano?
all people are different, many of us develop different intelligences, like musical, linguistic or emotional intelligence, which are often repressed.
"Lynne's gift for dancing was discovered by a doctor. She had been underperforming at school, so her mother took her to the doctor and explained about her fidgeting and lack of focus. After hearing everything her mother said, the doctor told Lynne that he needed to talk to her mother privately for a moment. He turned on the radio and walked out. He then encouraged her mother to look at Lynne, who was dancing to the radio. The doctor noted that she was a dancer, and encouraged Lynne's mother to take her to dance school."
this is basically the subject that he criticizes in this video, why having many types of intelligences the human just focus on the common knowledge leaving aside other types of skills, "because these will not give us a future", that is why it's common to see people who put aside their dreams and they become unhappy workers in search of money without satisfaction .
we were educated with the fear of failing, that's why we sometimes get stuck in mediocre jobs following the dreams of someone else.
we are educated to be workers.
in conclusion the education is preparing us to a reality that we have already overcome, the world has changed, but education is the same, we need an education system that develops all the competences, that does not repress the dreams and instead of that help us to reach them.
